AI Prepares received a $6,000 Department of Natural Resources Grant for fuels reduction on the island, managed by James Moore from the Pierce Conservation District. Grant funds will be used in early spring for a “Chipper Day”. Brush, dead wood and branches from limbed trees to prevent fire ladders can be piled at the end of your driveway and a crew will chip it and leave you a pile of bark chips in its place for use on your property. We estimate the chipper owner will be able to stop at around 25 homes on that day.
This service will only be open to homeowners who have had a Wildfire Risk Assessment done by James Moore.
AI Prepares has been focusing on educating island residents about how to reduce wildfire risk on their property. Wildfire Risk Assessments are available through the Pierce Conservation District. James Moore has completed 25 free assessments and 50 homeowners are on the waiting list. To get on the waiting list for this free service, contact Leslie Walser at lawalser@gmail.com
